Why You Should Use An Electric Skillet

An electric skillet is a frying and cooking pan that is plugged into an electric socket to enable it to heat and fry food. This is unlike traditional pans that are placed on a stove to heat. Some skillets even go to the extent of providing a heating surface for even and faster cooking. The size of the pan varies and this affects the amount of food it can hold in one cooking.

There are larger ones that are suitable to buy because they can carry more food items than what normal cooking pans placed on stoves can. They have added features, such as temperature control for setting heating levels. There are non-stick and coated surfaces to avoid burning of food. Some skillets are also dishwasher safe.

The skillet may have a warming tray below the heating surface for warming food. This is perfect for warming food and keeping food warm before the meal time. Skillets use electricity as the source of fuel and may take less space in the kitchen. However, large skillets may take a lot of space and are only suitable for commercial use.

Electric skillets are not the only available heating option in the market. Stove tops are also a competitive option for buyers. They also use electricity and other sources of fuel, like, gas and have fantastic features. They have a timer and a temperature gauge for setting and showing the desired heating levels.

Some come with an underneath oven and a storage option. They have a direct application of heat via the stove top. They, however, take more space according to their sizes. The stove may not be the fastest and versatile option when it comes to even heating of food and cooking that is time efficient.

After considering the available options of ensuring your cooking is faster and is efficient, the electric skillet is the best kitchen appliance. I will outline the reasons why you should use a skillet in your day to day cooking.

The electric skillet may provide a heating surface for fast and proper cooking of food. Stove tops do not have heating surfaces and the food is placed on a pan before being heated on it. For this reason, food cooked on stove tops may not be well cooked. Electric skillets ensure that there is even distribution of heat and that facilitates faster cooking and food becomes well cooked.

Skillets come in different sizes. The size can be as little as 12 by 12 inches. Some have pans even larger measuring up to 18 inches and are suitable for heating of larger amounts of food. The bigger the size the more amount of food it can hold. Skillets are available in small, medium and large sizes. Their sizes also affect the amount of space. Larger skillets take large spaces and these are fit for commercial use, for example, hotels and buffets. Size is an important factor to consider when shopping for one.

Electric skillets also come in three different shapes: round, square and rectangle. Square skillets are believed to hold larger amounts of food. This feature proves to be a save-spacer.

The skillets nowadays have added features. Some have a temperature control. With this control option one is able to set the desired heating level of the food that is being cooked. This prevents the food from burning and some even have extreme options of an indicator light that goes off when the maximum set temperature has been reached. Most stove tops lack this option; they only have a timer but the temperature gauge is only used while baking.

Skillet pans have a non-stick surface and are coated to prevent burning food. The coating ensures there is an even distribution of heat all across the heating surface and the heating occurs faster, thanks to this option and the aluminum that it is made of. Some skillets are made of stainless steel and cost more. The material of the pan always affects the cost of the skillet.

Some skillets are dish-washer safe. As a first in technological advancements, some skillets have the option of warming food. The warming tray warms food and can work while you are cooking at the same time. This is efficient, in that, you can warm baby food while cooking your meal and even store it for a period before other people join you for the meal.

The skillet has a better control of temperature and the temperature remains constant during the cooking of food. This heating option is far much suitable for cooking larger amounts. One is able to cook the meal and store it, unlike stovetop that requires you to watch when the food is cooking.

However, despite these excellent features it may also be a little bit disadvantageous but this does not overshadow the importance it has. The skillet may take up a large space in the kitchen as per its size. Larger sizes must require a plan to have enough space to accommodate them. They require a lot of care when handling. Due to its non-stick surface which is coated, one must avoid the use of serving utensils and metal spoons to stir the food. When this is done, the coating can become scratched and develop “hot spots” which can cause uneven heating leading to raw food.

The electric skillet is a time-saver, is versatile and the best and efficient option for cooking in the kitchen. You can use it cook a variety of foods and there are options for baking, deep frying and to top it all, your food remains warm.
